Alternative Energy Now!

Alternative energy now!

We really must be aware of the simple fact that we cannot continue as we do now. There is no way we can sustain ourselves with fossil fuels for much longer. Not only this is the first source of polution, and our planet is already suffering irreversible effects, but it is also going to end some day. There may be a whole lot of years ahead, but a the pace we are going, it will end.

Something else to consider with real attention is the increase in energy costs, in our daily lives, and it becomes every time more difficult to keep up the growth. Everything we use to warm up or to cool down our homes that is coming from the grid or from the pump is costing us more. Have you ever tried to measure the part it represents in your yearly cost of life? It’s a lot, for sure!

Now considering all those reasons, more and more people are looking today for alternative energies. The best part is that they have always been here, but so far trying to take advantage of them has been quite costly. Any system that has been offered on the market , generally was way too expensive for most of us.

But that too is over, it becomes more and more affordable, and may even be almost free, when you know how. Parts and implements are easier to find and less expensive. Government is also helping to develop alternative energies.

And whoever wishes to give the first step can power an entire home with alternative energy and get rid totally or partially of the power grid. It would also reduce the damage on our planet and be a strong message to others, to stop relying on the so damaging fossil fuels.

There are many ways to start, we will continue on this subject in my next post, but in the meantime you should really have a look at that DIY guide for wind and solar power.

Talk to you soon, think green…

What can you do to reduce energy needs ?

Hi there, have you ever wondered how to start doing something about that issue?

Well, I have and my researches led me to some interesting discoveries:

With simple instructions available on how to convert to homemade wind power or DIY solar panels for as little as $200, many people are taking the alternative energy more seriously. When choosing to take on a DIY conversion project the first question most people ask is will one windmill or one large solar panel be enough?

There are too many factors involved here to answer that question for you. But one way to start is to ensure your home is efficient in the first place. In this article we will walk you through some steps that will help you reduce your energy consumption before you start converting your home.

Reducing Your Energy Needs

One often overlooked step in converting a home to green power is reducing your energy needs in the first place. The average home uses inefficient lighting, power hungry appliances, and poor heating/cooling solutions. An important step to reducing your energy needs is to look at the inefficiencies in your current system.

Consider:

1. Replacing old incandescent bulbs with fluorescents or led bulbs will cut your power consumption from light in half.
2. Replacing old, inefficient, appliances may reduce your energy bills by as much as 30% by itself.

You should also look at your current heating/cooling solutions. For example an electric hot water heater could potentially be replaced by a solar water heater. Maybe that inefficient air conditioner can be replaced with a more efficient heat exchanger.

If you need help choosing more efficient appliances, an excellent resource for this is put out by the Canadian government: http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/EnerGuide/home.cfm. It’s called Energuide, and it covers everything power consumption of home appliance to energy requirements of large commercial air conditioners.

Spend some time looking through that guide and calculating how much you can reduce your power consumption in different areas of your home. By simply taking a look at everything in your home that consumes energy, you will find ways to reduce your energy needs before you start.

You don’t necessarily have to go all out and spend $10,000 replacing everything – but things as simple as changing your lighting will reduce your energy needs before you start your conversion project.

And as always……THINK  GREEN, ACT GREEN!

Greenly yours

Be Green, Be All Green

Hello reader,

This blog is about being green,  as in ecological, as in saving the planet, as in using alternative energies, as in changing the  meaning of our lives on hearth.

We should be mentally blind or stupid not to know everything that is said and shown and argued about the changes that our Hearth is suffering.

I feel very bad so often about all that is going on , it makes me sad, it makes me angry, and now it makes me write about it.

Our world is running to disaster and we don´t do much about it.

Like if we didn´t care or like if keeping things the way they are was plenty enough.

I am still not sure why we dont do more about the situation.

I recon, I don´t do much myself, but I want to change, I want to get involved, I want to participate.

Maybe more and more people will do the same and we may eventually change something, who knows?

Anyway this blog is where I want to do a bit more towards some improvement.

Here I will post anything I can find that may help to head towards a better world, and everything I may think about and that could be helpful to you too, reader.

Please keep in touch, come often, I promise this is going to be awesome.

Greenly yours.

Gerard
